About the centre:

This center is Located in the Central part of India in the bank of holly river Narmada. The Average rain fall is about 1200-1400 mm. Soil is medium black to heavy. In JNKVV Jabalpur the Wheat Project was established in 1941 funded by state government. At Jabalpur the new Center on AICRP on Wheat started was started from 2015-16 with one Assistant Breeder, one agronomist and two technical’s. The center is assigned to work on development of variety suitable for RF/partially irrigated. The contribution of breeding research has always been significant in phenomenal expansion. Thirteen varieties have been developed from last 15 years and all are resistance to rust coupled with good quality attributes. All the varieties are in seed multiplication chain. The breeding research conducted by JNKVV led to improvement in genetic architecture and development of several suitable varieties congruous to different agro-climatic zones of India and MP. The varieties developed by JNKVV have been largely utilized/being utilized by breeder of different centers in their breeding programmes.

Mandate:

 The mandate of the Centre is as under:

• Evaluation of different wheat (IVT & AVT) coordinated trials
• Screening of different wheat and barley nurseries
• Conduct of different agronomic coordinated trials to assess the response of new wheat and barley genotypes to fertilizer application/ different dates of sowing under irrigated and rainfed conditions
• Development of high yielding wheat genotypes resistant to rust coupled with good quality attributed suitable for rain fed/limited irrigated area
